Absolute Arabian Nights is the latest innovation from the Absolute Ensemble, an eclectic band of musicians and innovators under the guidance of director Kristjan Jarvi, who brought you Absolute Habanera and Absolute/Zappa(r). Inspired by life in the post September 11th global community, Absolute Arabian Nights brings members of the New York-based company together with musicians from the Middle East to create a sound that blends the Absolute Ensemble's signature funky modern take on jazz and classical music with Hindi, Egyptian and Arabic influences. The result is a fusion of cultures that broadcasts a central message of planetary unity.
Kristjan Jarvi made his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl in 1999 before moving on to become chief conductor for first the Norrlands Opera and Symphony Orchestra in Sweden and later the Tonkünstler Orchestra in Austria. He founded the New York based Absolute Ensemble in 1993 and has since toured around the globe with the group, with concert stops in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Vienna, Milan, and Sydney, to name just a few. The group has released eight albums and earned a Grammy Nomination in 2002 for the album Absolution.
Absolute Arabian Nights was developed by Jarvi and Swiss composer and saxophonist Daniel Schnyder, and features Schnyder, as well as guest soloists Marcel Khalife on vocals and the ude (Arabian lute), Bachar Khalife on hand percussion, Dhafer Youssef on vocals, and Bassam Saba on the nay (Middle Eastern wood flute). Given Absolute Ensemble's global reputation and limited North American concert dates in 2007, tickets will be available only through Ticketsmyway.com and can be expected to sell out quickly.
