Backyard Tire Fire has built a steady base of loyal American and European fans from their emotion-reaching songs, local radio appearances, relentless tours and heated concerts. Comparable to bands like MOFRO and the Drive-By Truckers, this group has a talent for writing honest, soulful rock music appealing to the masses, and creating a foundation for larger audiences and potential to be heard on the radio. They have earned an excellent reputation from touring a wide variety of clubs and festivals, and sharing the stage with famous celebrities such as Son Volt, Merle Haggard, James McMurtry, The Radiators, Alejandro Escovedo, Jackie Greene, The Mother Hips and Dan Bern. A great number of reviewers have credited this band for their unique sound.
The band was founded after Ed Anderson, who creates his music with guitar, keyboard, harmonica and lead vocals, took apart his previous Chicago-centered rock band that was known as Brother Jed(1995 to 2000). He joined forces with Tim Kramp, who plays drums and percussion, and together, they formed Backyard Tire Fire. During the year of 2001, they started to play consistently in Asheville, North Carolina. After some time, they began to move closer and closer to Athens, Georgia, getting in touch with their musical roots at the source of rock and roll. In 2002, the band gave a live performance at the Georgia Theatre before landing back in Illinois. There, they recruited Ed's brother Matt Anderson to play bass and help create their studio debut in 2003. Since then, the group has put together six recorded albums: Live At The Georgia Theatre(2002), Blood on the Strings-DVD(2003), Backyard Tire Fire(2003), Bar Room Semantics(2005), Skin And Bones(2006), and Vagabonds&Hooligans(2007).
