Get your tickets for Boney James. Born James Oppenheim in upstate New York, Boney James moved to Los Angeles at 15 and attended UCLA, majoring in history while continuing to play in a fusion jazz band. Early success with his band Line One led to several gigs opening for popular artists such as Flora Purim and the Yellowjackets. It was during this time that James began incorporating the Motown sound and popular music with fusion jazz, becoming a pioneer in contemporary urban jazz. Grab your tickets today!

Motown was an early influence that can still be heard in Boney James soulful songs; his recent music also bears the stamp of hip-hop, for just as Motown has changed so has Boney James. A VH1 featured artist and two-time Grammy nominee who makes the sophisticated accessible, James creates soundscapes and danceable tracks that attract music lovers from a variety of backgrounds including hip-hop, R&B, new jazz and contemporary audiences.

Boney James got his first break as keyboardist with Morris Day, but continued to play saxophone and experiment with different forms of jazz, fusion and urban music to create a distinct sound that represented his various influences. Eventually, James convinced Day to let him play saxophone in Day's band, allowing James to collaborate with some of the most influential pop music artists of the time.

After achieving success as a touring band member and guest artist on recordings by musicians as varied as Stevie Wonder, Randy Crawford, Sheena Easton, the Isley Brothers and Bobby Caldwell, Boney James assembled his own band and began to compose his solo debut. As the leader of Spindletop, he released 1992's Trust and was quickly signed by Warner records. He spent a decade with Warner, releasing nine albums including the Grammy nominated Ride and Pure, and receiving four gold certifications.

As an artist, Boney James has attracted a diverse and loyal fan base, introducing music lovers to a unique blend of hip-hop, R&B and progressive jazz. A force behind the urban jazz sound featured in contemporary jazz and heard everywhere from coffee houses to clubs, his fan base includes R&B traditionalists, fusion aficionados and hip-hop moguls. Boney James current tour is in support of Shine, which debuted at #1 on the Contemporary Jazz charts and #6 on the R&B charts in October 2006.

For a sweet night with an unmistakable groove, catch acclaimed urban jazz artist Boney James at the Chicago Theater this Thursday, February 14 at 7:30pm. Tickets and premium seating is still available through Ticketsmyway.com.
