Ticketsmyway.com is now selling premium tickets to see Catie Curtis in concert at 7:30 p.m. on February 26 at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
The singer-songwriter, called a "folk rock goddess" by The New Yorker, is known for her expressive alto voice and gentle singing style, all overlaid on a pared-down acoustic sound. But her most lauded talent lies in crafting poetic lyrics that are compelling yet understated, never saying a word too much. Curtis' love songs are tender and poignant, while her lyrics about social issues are pointed and witty. She makes every song personal and emotionally gripping, tackling such tough subjects as feminism, religion, homelessness, and war. Her song "People Look Around," about the Hurricane Katrina disaster, was the grand prize winner of the 2006 International Songwriting Competition.
As a live performer, Curtis is fresh, lively, and sensitive to her audience. She fosters a sense of intimacy that suits the personal quality of her music. It's easy to see how she developed the largely word-of-mouth following that kicked off her indie career fifteen years ago. Since then, she has stepped into the mainstream with six major-label releases, the latest of which, Long Night Moon, came out last August.
Curtis has done extensive concert tours in the US and Europe, and she appeared in the Lilith Fair women's music festival. She has collaborated with many leading figures in folk and rock, such as Dar Williams, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Sheryl Crow. Her songs have been featured on such TV shows as Dawson's Creek, Grey's Anatomy, Alias, and Felicity, as well as in independent films. In 2006 she was the subject of a feature film documentary, Tangled Stories.
The concert will take place in Jaeb Theater, which seats 300. Country/folk musician Liz Carlisle will open. Tickets are available at Ticketsmyway.com. Call now!
