William "Count" Basie is credited with elevating the Big Band sound and its special form of jazz to such a level that his influence during the era and even to this day is evident. After signing a deal with Decca Records and moving the band from Kansas City to New York in the mid 1930's, Basie's style and reknown exploded when the band received extensive airplay on radio stations from coast to coast.

After World War II the Count was featured in several Hollywood films and featured on the then "state of the art"HI-FI recordings. It was this combination that vaulted Basie to international fame. When the era of Big Band music waned in the early 50's, the Count Basis Orchestra never missed a beat as Basie continued a busy schedule selling out bookings in Las Vegas and major cities across the country.

The orchestra leader and director Bill Hughes takes pride in holding firm to the purity of the Count Basie sound. " We have taken great care to find performers who have a heart for the special sound of the Count", says Bill.
