Upon graduation from UCLA, he played his first professional job with Bobby Caldwell. With support and enthusiasm from Caldwell and friend, Jeff Lorber, he branched out to pursue a solo career. People magazine named Dave Koz one of their "50 Hottest Bachelors" in their June 2004 issue. He has earned respect and praise from music aficionados and is believed to be the latest contender for the instrumental pop saxophone throne. He proved himself to be long-standing after his self-titled 1990 release stayed on the Billboard contemporary jazz charts for 25 weeks, producing the Top Ten song "Nothing But The Radio" and the No. 1 hit "Castle of Dreams".

Dave Koz plays with fervor and passion creating music to envelope many means to showcase his talent. By 1993, Lucky Man proved to be much more than just a selling success (over 700,000 copies were sold in the U.S.). This album included the song, "Faces of the Heart," which was picked as the theme song for General Hospital, the first new theme song in over 30 years.

Koz also enjoyed a regular stint on The Arsenio Hall Show, showcasing himself by crossing over into the mainstream media.
