If the upcoming ACC Football Commitments are any clue of division strategies, the new season promises to be full of surprises. Seniors from St. Joseph High School in Montvale, NJ, Pensacola High School and several points in between will join football rosters throughout the conference. While the Atlantic Division only has 27 commitments, the Coastal Division has a whopping 49 young men who plan to grace their campuses. Is the Atlantic Division so sure of its current bench depth that scouts opted for fewer new talents? Did the Coastal scouts decide its current players needed some competition to raise the level of play within the division making the conference a sure win? Only the scouts know what the true strategy will be. In any case, 76 young men will have the opportunity to take what they have learned from their various high schools and junior colleges and continue a longstanding tradition in this conference.
For over fifty years, the ACC Football Championship has been a keystone of the NCAA games. With Boston College rounding out the Atlantic, each team has five games within its division and three games in the alternate division. Georgia Tech and Wake Forest were leaders in past years conferences, but Boston College and Virginia Tech were just as competitive in overall play. Duke and NC State have a lot of room for improvement in the coming season. Teams like Virginia, Miami, Clemson, Florida State and Maryland could go either way. These twelve teams will have a final head to head match at the Dr Pepper ACC Championship. ESPN will cover the game at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
